"Reynard the Fox" is a satirical poem by the famous German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832), created in 1793 based on a French medieval epic. The author of the poem masterfully ridicules feudal society. Representatives of various classes, from courtiers to peasants, hide under the masks of a bear, a wolf, a badger and other animals and birds. At the center of the story is a cunning fox who is able to get out of any trouble and cleverly deceive the king himself.

This edition presents the poem in a prose retelling with a full set of illustrations by Heinrich Leutemann and some works by Wilhelm Kaulbach and Joseph Wolf. The book also includes a French version of the epic with illustrations by Benjamin Rabier.
