Many people knew of Father John (Krestyankin), who lived in the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery. They traveled to him with their sorrows and perplexities, writing letters from all over Russia. From him, they received guidance and advice on how to understand their spiritual lives and how to deal with various life situations. Father John taught his disciples love, understanding, and forgiveness, faith in God's Providence, and guided them to God.
This book is composed of Father John's letters, sent and passed on by those who addressed them. It consists of the following sections: "From Correspondence with a Spiritual Father," "On the Essentials for a Christian," "Letters to Individual Addressees," "Letters to Various People, Organized by Theme," "Letters from Imprisonment," and "A Word on Spiritual Leadership." The thematic division of the letters will help readers find answers to questions that are personally important to them. The collection includes letters given to the publishers by the spiritual children of Archimandrite John, as well as letters provided by Father John’s cell attendant, Tatyana Sergeevna Smirnova.
