The fate of the pre-revolutionary gold reserve of Russia, which by August 1, 1914 was one of the largest in the world, has always attracted public attention. Around this issue a lot of crooked talk, vain fictions, and just absolutely not based on anything fabrications. The book by candidate of historical sciences S. V. Tatarinov allows a new way of looking at this problem. The author manages to trace the dynamics of the depletion of wealth accumulated by the labor of many generations of the peoples of Russia on the basis of an extensive source base, including foreign archives, where the author worked with materials personally. The study names names of famous political and banking figures, people involved in operations to move Russian gold abroad, and not always in the interests of the state. The book breaks many stereotypes, but this is the author's vision of those events. A significant part of the documents, primarily from the archives of the Bank of England - one of the most authoritative credit institutions in the world, is published for the first time.
