Herodotus is often called the "Father of History", and therefore at first glance he seems to be some kind of isolated innovator. But in reality, both in his era and even earlier, a number of other authors worked in the field of historiography in ancient Greece, who, however, are extremely little known - primarily because their works, unlike Herodotus', have reached us not in their entirety, but only in fragments. In this edition, this fragmentarily preserved legacy of historians - predecessors and contemporaries of Herodotus - along with surviving evidence of sources about them, for the first time is presented in the most complete way in Russian translation, accompanied by detailed commentary. The book is intended for historians of the classics, teachers and students of humanities faculties of universities and everyone interested in the history and culture of Ancient Greece.
