This is the first separate edition of the Russian translation of the most famous essay by the German writer and philosopher Ernst Jünger (1895–1998). "The idea of this book," the author wrote in the preface to the first edition, "is to show, beyond theories, political parties, and prejudices, the gestalt of the Worker as an active entity that has already intervened powerfully in history and imperatively determines the forms of a changed world." Jünger's book, which has lost none of its provocativeness since its publication in 1932, explores the political, socioeconomic, and cultural transformations in the "age of masses and machines" and outlines the typical features of the new technical man, a hero of the post-bourgeois world. The preface by translator Alexander Mikhailovsky explores the relevance of this essay for 21st-century readers.
