The world's first publication about the history of Riga Black Balsam over its 265-year history, created by the joint efforts of an international team from Latvia and Russia. The book uses historical materials from the collections of Riga, Jelgava, Liepaja and Moscow museums, as well as private collections. There are many great drinks in the world, the names of whose creators we remember with gratitude. Everyone knows that Becherovka was invented by pharmacist Josef Vitus Becher, Smirnoff vodka by Russian industrialist Petr Smirnov, Martel cognac by Frenchman Jean Maretel, and the famous Cinzano vermouth by the Cinzano family who lived near Turin long ago. And Riga Black Balsam was created by a real author - Abraham Kunze, a Riga resident who lived in the 18th century. A blacksmith who became an apothecary, or vice versa: an apothecary who became a blacksmith? The balsam was once called Kuntse balsam - after the name of the man who invented it. This richly illustrated album contains the most interesting information about him and his wonderful invention - Riga Black Balsam.
