Beatrice Colomina (born 1952) is a theorist, architectural historian and professor at Princeton University. In her book, she explores the phenomenon of modern architecture, which she argues is one medium alongside advertising and photography. Kolomina considers, on the one hand, Le Corbusier's projects - his spectacle houses, in which windows become a camera obscura, and on the other hand, Adolf Loos's inward-looking buildings, where exteriors - the embodiment of the public - are only "masks" behind which the interiors - the embodiment of the private - are hidden. The author questions the status of architecture as high art and asks: is it possible today to draw a clear boundary between subject and object, window and movie camera, public and private?
