Although the book is small and can fit in a small handbag, its contents are the same as those of a full-size Psalter: twenty kathismas; hymns of Holy Scripture; troparia and prayers prescribed before and after the reading of the Psalter, as well as after each kathisma; a memorial book; a canon of supplication for the separation of the soul from the body; a service after the departure of the soul from the body; and the rite of the twelve psalms. This is the first publication of a memorial book for the dead, compiled by Saint Philaret, Metropolitan of Moscow. For beginners, it explains the prayers appropriate to conclude each "glory" of the kathisma and how to read the Psalter for the departed.
The Small Psalter contains the Order of the Funeral Litiya, performed by a layperson, and also includes blank lined pages for writing the names of those for whom one wishes to pray: for their health or for the repose of their souls. This is how the Small Psalter differs from the Large Psalter.
The book also includes a bookmark, which will always help you find the right page. The hard, durable binding with beautiful embossing and high-quality printing will ensure a long life for the book.
