"Völuspá" is the first poem that opens the cycle of mythological songs of the Scandinavian "Elder Edda" and tells about the creation, the coming destruction and rebirth of the world, humanity and the gods. A special place in the poem is occupied by the figure of the völva - a mystical prophetess who possesses secret knowledge about the fate of the universe. Following the author of the poem, the book invites us into a poetic world born of a powerful imagination - a world in which völuvas reincarnate, remember their past lives, plunge into a trance, contemplate secret worlds and abodes, converse with spirits under the night sky and live side by side with them.

In addition to the classic Russian translation of the "Prophecy" by A. I. Korsun (1907-1963), this edition presents numerous interpretations offered over the last century by English-language researchers (W. M. Dronke, G. A. Bellows, L. M. Hollander, M. Kvilhaug, and others), as well as an extensive corpus of philological, historical, and historiographical commentaries.

Compiled and translated by Anna Blaze.
