Archbishop Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky; 1877-1961) delivered more than a thousand sermons from the pulpit during his 38 years of priesthood. The Council of the Moscow Theological Academy called them "an exceptional phenomenon in modern church-theological life." Saint Luke's terse sermons are devoted to a wide variety of topics, but the Gospel remains the center and axis of all his speeches. Thus, many sermons are devoted to the compatibility of science and religion. With all the power of his erudition, drawing on the facts of evolutionary theory, physiology and psychology, the preacher defends the Gospel teaching on the triune composition of man - spirit, soul and body. The saint cites the testimonies of outstanding scientists and philosophers, and turns to the history of human thought. He also calls on his listeners to be tolerant and merciful to each other. The book contains sermons of the holy confessor Luka (Voino-Yasenetsky), delivered in 1951-1959.
