"Accession of Georgia to Russia" - the main work of the outstanding Georgian historian, diplomat and political figure Prince Zurab Davidovich Avalov (Avalishvili). The author's goal was to outline the process of joining Georgia to the huge empire of one faith and its peculiarities, to point out some conditions that caused the necessity of this step and the environment in which the event took place. The unification was not and could not be painless, according to Avalov, this event was preceded by a long road, on which separate Georgian kingdoms and possessions gradually lost their independence. The scholar believed that Russia had neither economic nor strategic interests in this act, while Georgia needed the help and support of the powerful empire. "Either way, the accession of Georgia to Russia was for the former a great step forward, for the latter an extremely valuable acquisition, entailing a number of new successes."
