While creating the multi-volume History of the Russian State, Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin (1766-1826) made many notes and extracts of great scientific importance, but they too increased the volume of the main work. Therefore, the author decided to put these numerous details and particulars in a special volume of notes, which is offered to the reader's attention in this book. The citation of the main text and the numbering of pages are given according to the edition:
Karamzin N. M. History of the Russian State: - St. Petersburg. NWCEO, 2023. The first eight volumes of the unique "History" by Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin (1766-1826) were published in 1818 in three thousand copies. For those times it was a risky gigantic circulation. The price of all the books in the series was also huge - 50 rubles; twice the monthly salary of a clerk. However, in less than a month all the books were sold out! History Karamzin read literally all the enlightened public of the time, because so about domestic history has not written before no one. And it was not only in the excellent knowledge of ancient manuscripts, which Karamzin studied for many years in the archives of the Synod, the Hermitage, the Academy of Sciences, the Public Library, the Moscow University and in the walls of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, not only in the impartial presentation of events, for which conservatives considered "History" a dangerous work, and liberals - the preaching of monarchism. The public was first of all impressed by the very style of Karamzin's presentation. After all, before sitting down for this gigantic work, the author had done a tremendous job of modernizing the literary language of his time. He made it lively, colloquial. It is no coincidence that written by him at the end of the XVIII century "Letters of a Russian Traveler" immediately brought him fame as a talented writer. However, later Karamzin interrupted the writing of fiction and, in his own words, "cut his hair in the historian. He was sure that a systematic and complete presentation of Russian history with all its light and dark pages is immeasurably more important for the formation of civic consciousness than any literary crafts. It is not without reason that even nowadays Karamzin's "History" forms a solid foundation on which all modern works about the history of our country are based. During his lifetime, Karamzin managed to bring his work to the description of the end of the Time of Troubles. Later, all twelve volumes of his "History" were repeatedly reprinted. Creating his "History of the Russian State", Karamzin made a lot of notes and extracts of great scientific importance. However, they significantly increased the volume of the multi-volume edition, so these numerous details and details the author decided to put in a separate volume of notes, which you hold in your hands. Familiarization with this book will expand your perception of the History of the Russian State.
