Pif the dog appeared in France in 1945. He was invented by the artist and cartoonist José Cabrero Arnal. The funny Pif became the main character of comics, which were printed in newspapers and magazines. Soon the stories about Pif were so loved by French readers that they acquired a new format: they began to be printed in separate books, to shoot cartoons on them, there were also theatrical productions. Today the stories about the witty and inventive Pif and his friends - Uncle Caesar, Aunt Agatha, little Duda and the cat Hercules - for Russian children written by Grigory Benzionovich Auster.
