Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966) was a distinguished British writer, biographer and journalist, one of the finest stylists, as well as a recognized master of black humor and deadly caustic satire, the creator of grotesquely funny fantasies, which bizarrely refracts the way of life of the British Empire in the past. This edition includes three novels, which, without a doubt, can be attributed to the most vivid and widely known works of the author: "A Fistful of Ashes", "The Foul Flesh" and "Decay and Destruction". Their characters belong to different generations and different classes. The hero of the novel "A Fistful of Ashes" Tony Last is a landowner, naive idealist and romantic, reduced to ashes after his wife's infidelity and the death of his son. Characters in the novel "Foul Flesh" belong to the generation of the twenties of the last century; they spend their days in the tireless pursuit of social pleasures, exercising their inventive minds in new whims and adventures. The protagonist of the novel Decay and Destruction is a teacher who takes a job at a privileged boarding school after being dishonorably expelled from Oxford for attending a riotous party. These characters, so different, are united by a common fatal destiny, an inescapable fate that pushes them to reckless, sometimes inexplicable actions and decisions.
