Over the past 125 years, the state structure of France has changed many times, and, accordingly, the role of the president. In 1958, with the establishment of the Fifth Republic, the president became the most influential figure in the country, and since then his powers have been compared, not without reason, to the prerogatives of kings. It is the president who sets the direction for the development of France, determines its domestic and foreign policy. The book presents eighteen portraits of French presidents - from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, from Emile Loubet, who became the head of the country in 1899, to Emmanuel Macron. The life story of each of them is interesting in itself, but it is also a page in the history of France.
