"Tell me how you feel about Communion, and I will tell you what your faith is"—this is how one could briefly summarize the content of the book "The Holy Gifts" by Archpriest Alexander Shargunov. Addiction to sacredness is the most dangerous thing for a Christian's spiritual life. Father Alexander's book is intended to awaken those feelings of awe and reverence with which believers should approach the Holy Chalice. It is especially useful to read in preparation for Holy Communion.
For over forty years of his priesthood, the author has tried to convey the message of the Sacrament of the Eucharist to parishioners in sermons or during general confession before Communion. This book contains some of these sermons.
Archpriest Alexander Shargunov has taught for many years at the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary. He is an associate professor in the Department of Biblical Studies and a member of the Union of Writers of Russia and the Academy of Russian Literature. Since 1990 he has been the rector of the Church of St. Nicholas of Myra in Pyzhi.
