Alexander Vaskin's book tells about that wonderful time when our country was considered not only the most reading in the world, but also the most writing. For in no other state lived so many officially recognized writers - almost ten thousand people: poets, novelists, playwrights, screenwriters, translators, critics .... The life of Soviet writers was extremely exciting and intense - they worked in creative houses, were treated in Litfond polyclinics, spent honestly earned royalties, received deserved prizes and orders, went on business trips around the country and abroad. They also celebrated housewarmings in the so-called writer's houses, vacationed at country houses, sat at congresses and in the restaurant of the Central Department of Literature. This is a very interesting account of the everyday life of Soviet writers, their daily life from the thaw to perestroika (1950-1980s), in which there was enough room for humor and sadness. The book is based on archival documents and eyewitness accounts, some of which are published for the first time.
