The book tells about the daily life of the inhabitants of Mikhailovsky, the estate that belonged to Alexander Pushkin's family. The narrative centers not only on the two years that Alexander Sergeevich spent here in exile (from August 1824 to September 1826), but also on Pushkin's other visits to the Pskov land, where he returned many times. The author seeks to trace all, even the smallest details of Pushkin's everyday life, his daily impressions, communication, etc., based on the immutable fact that the circumstances of everyday life for any person are no less important than major historical events and turning points of epochs, and it is from them that human life is mainly formed: the "all-powerful god of details" is behind all its peripetias.
The second part of the book describes the everyday life of Mikhailovsky without Pushkin. The fate of the Pushkin Reserve in the post-war years takes a special place in it. In particular, the pages of the book present the reader with a vivid image of Semyon Stepanovich Geichenko, the longtime "guardian" of the local area.
