Following Voltaire's principle of "all genres are good except the boring", Renard did not divide literature into "high" and "low": his works break the usual logic of plot development and combine entertainment and intellectualism. It is no coincidence that Renard was popular not only with readers but also with literary critics, and in the XXI century was called "the brilliant predecessor of modern science fiction" ("Dictionary of Detective Literature" edited by Claude Mespled, 2003). His work had a notable influence on the subsequent development of genre literature and in many ways anticipated the plots of the famous fantasy works of the Golden Age. The present edition includes the novels "Dr. Lern, the demigod" (1908), "The Blue Menace" (1912), "The Lord of Light" (1933), as well as the short stories "The Opera Singer", "The Glory of Comacchio", "Mr. de Troupier, the Noble Physicist" and "Noise in the Mountains".
