Saint Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky) was a remarkable figure. A world-renowned scientist, one of the founders of regional anesthesia and purulent surgery, and simultaneously a bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, he was a deeply religious man. He embarked on the path of church service at a time when it was mortally dangerous. Believers were exiled, imprisoned, and executed. Saint Luke himself suffered, but he never lost his faith or steadfastness in his confession of Christ and service to the people of God. This faith was reflected in every word of his sermons, which he delivered throughout his many years of archpastoral ministry.
This book contains Saint Luke's sermons on Great Lent and the Easter liturgical season, delivered during his tenure in the Tambov and Simferopol dioceses.
