The end of the defense of Sevastopol is traditionally considered to be July 3, 1942, when the Soviet Information Bureau announced that Soviet troops had abandoned the city. However, document review led the author of this book to a clear conclusion: Sevastopol continued to fight for approximately two weeks after that date—at least until the second ten days of July, when the enemy suppressed the last pockets of organized defense. Soviet troops did not abandon the city; they remained in Sevastopol. A report by F.S. Oktyabrsky, commander of the Sevastopol Defensive Region, contains the words: "The remaining troops were very tired and wavered." However, as it turned out, this is not entirely true...
This book is about those who did not "waver." The book covers the period from June 28 to July 16, 1942, when the last battle of the Sevastopol defense took place. Working with German archival documents, it was possible to determine where this battle took place. Search work on the area made it possible to identify his traces and link them to modern landmarks.
