The Leningrad-Novgorod Operation was a strategic offensive operation by Soviet troops of the Leningrad, Volkhov and 2nd Baltic Fronts, carried out in cooperation with the Baltic Fleet and long-range aviation to defeat the German Army Group "North", completely lift the siege of Leningrad and liberate the Leningrad Region. The operation took place in the first months of 1944. During it the Soviet troops inflicted a heavy defeat on the German 18th and 16th armies, not only liberating Leningrad from the blockade, but also throwing back the German troops to Estonia and Latvia. The successes achieved had political repercussions; Finland began to look for an opportunity to make peace with the Soviet Union. Based on numerous documentary material, the book by the famous military historian S.N. Biryuk tells in detail about the February stage of the operation, more precisely about three battles on the rivers - Luga, Plussa and Lochkina. In addition, the author describes the actions to conquer the bridgehead on the western shore of Peipsi and Pskov lakes - the Piirissaar operation.
