Under the terms of the Paris Peace Treaty of 1815, concluded after the end of the Napoleonic Wars, Count M.S. Vorontsov's Russian Corps was part of the allied army stationed in the eastern and northeastern regions of France as a guarantor of the new world order. For three years about thirty thousand Russian soldiers had to adapt to a cultural and linguistic space alien to them, trying to avoid conflicts with the civilian population of the country against which they had recently waged a fierce war. The author of the book offers readers a detailed history of the Russian occupation of France in 1815 - 1818, describing the material and legal conditions of the Russian military in this country, the reaction of the local population and authorities to the need to get along with uninvited "guests", the impact of these circumstances on the daily behavior of soldiers and officers and on discipline in the corps.
