The story "Burn After Reading" tells how American intelligence stole the secret of Japanese diplomatic codes on the eve of the Pacific War and learned of Japan's impending attack. But why did the American high command, knowing about the Japanese plans, allow the destruction of Pearl Harbor, the main base of its navy in the Pacific Ocean, the destruction of many warships and the death of thousands of people? The disaster at Pearl Harbor is one of those tragic episodes of World War II that are still hidden by an impenetrable veil of secrecy and have not been fully deciphered by history.
"The Secret of Pearl Harbor" is the main theme of the new adventure story by R. Kim. While working on it, the author made extensive use of Japanese and American data, and in particular, genuine Japanese cipher telegrams and materials from the US Congress commission investigating the events at Pearl Harbor. The story "The Notebook Found in Suncheon" is also based on documentary evidence.
