The Chronicle of the Prussian Land, written by Peter of Dusburg, a priest of the Teutonic Order, is one of the most striking historiographic works of the European Middle Ages. Chronologically, it covers the period from the 1230s and 1240s to 1326. The narrative focuses on the conquest of Prussia by the Teutonic Order, which began in the 1240s and was completed in 1293. At the same time, the Chronicle reflects the early history of the Teutonic Order, as well as world historical events that form the backdrop for the main narrative.

The Chronicle is not only a historical work but also a monument to theological and crusading thought. The Teutonic Order's invasion of Prussia was, in essence, a Crusade, formally aimed at Christianizing the Prussian pagan tribes, although in reality the Crusaders aimed to create their own territorial state on the captured lands.
