The "Chronicle of the Land of Prussia", written by the Teutonic priest Peter of Dusburg, is one of the brightest monuments of historiography of the European Middle Ages. Chronologically, it covers the period from the 30s-40s of the 13th century to 1326. The narrative focuses on the conquest of Prussia by the Teutonic Order, begun in the 40s of the 13th century and completed in 1293. At the same time, the "Chronicle" reflects the early history of the Teutonic Order, and along with it - the events of world history, forming the background for the main narrative.
"Chronicle" is not only a historical monument, but also a monument of theological and crusader thought. The invasion of Prussia by the Teutonic Order, in fact, was a Crusade, formally aimed at Christianizing the Prussian pagan tribes, although in fact the Crusaders aimed to create their own territorial state on the captured lands.
