Elena Pervushina's previous book was published under the title "Women of St. Petersburg in the 18th Century." This is her second book, which tells the stories of women living in the northern capital in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At this time, Russia was in crisis, and life as usual was no longer possible. Through political struggle, women found an answer to the "women's question" of the 19th century. They won rights and gained the opportunity to shape their lives according to their own choices. But then they were faced with a new question: how could women transform society, making it more just and comfortable for themselves and for men? Women of the 20th century had to seek an answer to this question...

The book contains numerous quotes, typically from little-known and completely unfamiliar works. These include not only memoirs and documents, but also works of fiction in which authors (often women) expressed their views on various events, phenomena, and problems of public life.
