The Song of the Nibelungs is an epic poem written by an unknown German author at the turn of the 12th-13th centuries. Based on Germanic-Scandinavian mythology, it tells the story of the marriage of the dragon-fighting hero Siegfried, his treacherous murder and the revenge of his widow Kriemhilde. Due to the combination of epic scope and lyrical penetration "Song of the Nibelungs" was nicknamed the German "Iliad". Bloody battles, cursed treasures, love and revenge - with its thrilling plot it continues to attract fans all over the world.
