In the second half of the 19th century, the emergence of the latest weapons - torpedoes and destroyers - had a huge impact on the development of naval art. It was then that the expensive armored giants lost their undivided dominance on the seas. One of the most advanced were the destroyer forces of France, where the fascination with small swift "night robbers" manifested itself especially strongly. In the Third Republic, the construction of destroyers began under the program in 1875, and the lead destroyer laid in 1909 series "Bouclier" (Bouclier) has already developed a record speed of 35 knots, becoming the fastest ship in the entire French Navy. In addition, the French actively sold their destroyers to other countries. Even China would order two mine cruisers from France at the turn of the century, but the largest customer was the Russian Empire. Under the St. Andrew's flag, the destroyers built in Le Havre would take an active part in the Russo-Japanese and World War I. In 1916 the destroyer "Grozovoy" will sink the newest German submarine, and such a success can not be repeated by any destroyer of the Russian Navy.
The new book by a famous historian of the fleet of the turn of XIX-XX centuries for the first time in all details tells about the creation, design, evolution and combat use of French destroyers 1875-1910 years.
The publication is illustrated with unique drawings and photographs.
