Facing Time: An Essay on Photography
9.99 €
This collection brings together critical remarks, philosophical reflections, and the lived experiences of photography by Siegfried Kracauer, one of the leading intellectuals of the Weimar Republic. Essays written between 1927 and 1933 and 1951 place photography in the context of popular culture, urban life, the world of cinema, and questions of memory and history. The collection concludes with a series of Kracauer's photographs for the hypothetical project "Curriculum Vitae in Photographs," with commentary by Maria Zinfert. All of these texts are preceded by an article by Philippe Depoix, a professor at the University of Montreal, literary scholar, and historian of ideas, "Kracauer: A Theorist of the Photographic Medium."
