The monograph is devoted to a fifteen-volume collection of texts written by different authors, but united by a common goal - to tell about contemporary Paris. This collection is one of the most characteristic examples of what Walter Benjamin called panoramic literature, which can also be called kaleidoscopic. How is this publication organized, what kind of reader is it intended for, and is there anything in common in these 15 volumes written by one hundred and fifteen literary men? To answer these questions, the author examines The Book of the Hundred and One in the context of other earlier and later "Parisian" works. The monograph includes numerous excerpts from the essays and a complete translation of 15 texts, most of which have never been translated into Russian.
