In memory of the murdered churches

Marcel Proust's critical articles on art, collected by himself in his book "In Memory of Murdered Churches", are to a large extent the writer's response to the theories of John Ruskin, whose texts he translated into French. Proust devotes considerable space to the functions of the museum, the observation of art, the notion of the landmark, and others. In these works Proust's aesthetic positions, which later found expression in the novel cycle "In Search of Lost Time", are described in detail and in depth. The collection is supplemented by a translation of the essay "Rembrandt".
