"The Fall" - the last completed story by A. Camus. Trying to answer the eternal question: "What is the meaning of human existence?", the writer chooses the form of a monologue-confession of the hero. Camus exposes the most terrible human vices, which cannot be condemned by the court as an instance, but contradict virtue. The protagonist of the story, having realized himself as a hypocrite and a sinner, does not give up his essence, but finds justification for continuing his habitual life... It is not without reason that Jean-Paul Sartre characterized the story as "the most beautiful and least understood" book by A. Camus.
