In the second book in the series, the wonderful red-haired family - Daddy Mick and his children Emma and Lucas - take on a new detective investigation. The Crab's Hotel on the Isle of Northerney is apparently haunted, which is why no one stays there. While Mick's dad checks into the hotel, Emma and Lucas ambush him outside. It's a good thing that Janssen's great-uncle Janssen has perfectly equipped a detective van especially for such cases. There is literally everything in it, from all sorts of technical innovations that allow you to see and hear literally through the walls, and ending with an impressive supply of food, which may come in handy during the multi-day tracking of the criminal. And the ghosts don't keep you waiting. Their howls and rumbles make the walls shake and move. And they scare Mick's dad so much that he leaves the hotel in a terrible panic. But scaring Emma and Lucas isn't so easy. Besides, they guess that under the guise of ghosts are probably disreputable and deceitful people. They return to the hotel and, risking their lives, not only expose the criminals, but also save the life of a noble old lady. The key to success in the investigation is simple: Emma and Lucas are observant, smart and fearless. And they complement each other perfectly. And the fact that they are still children only helps them to penetrate where not every adult would go. An engaging plot, likable characters and excellent translation by Pavel Frenkel guarantee a one-sitting read from the first to the last page. Recommended for children of primary school age.
