"Paternoster" by St. Ignatius Bryanchaninov is a collection of short stories about the great fathers of the Church, hermits and monks. Ignatius Bryanchaninov compiled it using the texts of the "Prologue" and "Dobrotolyubiya", making translations of Greek and Latin works contained in the multi-volume "Patrology" by Minya. This book turned out to be a treasury of teachings of the ancient ascetics, where every word of them is the fruit of ascetic experience, deeply internalized by the writer himself. "Paternoster" teaches intelligent attentive prayer, devotion to the Orthodox faith, the fear of God, so necessary not only for monastics, but also for laymen. The saint was convinced that if one mastered perfectly the holy theological heritage, then, "as one minded and unanimous with the holy fathers, one will be saved."
