In Saint Ignatius Brianchaninov's Patericon, every teaching and every word is the fruit of the ascetic experience of the ancient ascetics—an experience deeply and practically assimilated by the holy writer himself. His Grace was utterly convinced that if one perfectly masters the patristic legacy, then, "as one of one mind and one soul with the Holy Fathers, one will be saved." In compiling the Patericon, Saint Ignatius consulted not only the texts of the Prologue, the Philokalia, and other well-known publications, but also made his own selection and translation of Greek and Latin quotations from various works contained in Migne's multi-volume Patrology. Most frequently, the Saint uses sources from Volume 40 of the Greek Patrology and Volume 73 of the Latin Patrology.
