The area "France" and, accordingly, the ethnic term "Franks" in the III - early IV centuries were attached to the territory along the lower course of the Rhine and to the Germanic tribes that inhabited this territory. What was the ethnos of the ancient Franks and what was the territory of their original settlements? In the III-IV centuries the old Germanic tribes began to consolidate into tribal unions. The same, apparently, is the origin of the Franks - a tribal union that grew up on the basis of the consolidation of a number of other, more ancient tribes. At the turn of the V and VI centuries, the process of internal consolidation of the Franks reaches such a level that not very in the early years of a strong tribal union turns into a nation. The formation of a single territory accelerated this process, strengthening the consciousness of common ethnicity. Thus began the long history of a great country and a great people.....
