This textbook systematically describes organic compounds by class and presents the fundamental theoretical principles of organic chemistry. The structure and properties of organic compounds are examined from the perspectives of both electron displacement theory and molecular orbital theory.
Part I includes chapters on theoretical problems of organic chemistry (atomic and molecular orbital theory, electron displacement theory), as well as the chemistry of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and dienes of aliphatic hydrocarbons.
Part II includes chapters on stereochemistry, nucleophilic substitution and elimination reactions, the chemistry of alcohols, thiols, ethers, sulfides, and free radicals; the concept of aromaticity is introduced.
The third part includes chapters on the chemistry of carbonyl compounds (aldehydes, ketones), carboxylic acids and their derivatives, as well as nitrogen-containing organic compounds (amines, nitro and diazo compounds, azides), phenols, quinones, and cycloalkanes.
The fourth part includes chapters on the chemistry of non-transition metals, as well as certain types of organic reactions and metal complex catalysis. The fundamentals of industrial organic synthesis and planning are briefly covered.
