This collection includes eyewitness memoirs of the revolutionary events of the autumn of 1917 in Petrograd and Moscow, first published in various Russian émigré publications. Most of these memoirs have not been reprinted in modern Russia. The collection's authors include prominent political figures of the time, as well as ordinary witnesses to the events (lawyers, journalists, officers, and cadets), including those who took direct part in them. These eyewitness accounts provide a rich insight into the psychological atmosphere of this tragic time for Russia. The memoirs published in this collection also cover some of the period preceding the Bolshevik Revolution, but focus primarily on the decisive days of late October and early November 1917, particularly the defense of the Winter Palace and the fighting in Moscow.
