Henryk Sienkiewicz, a classic of Polish literature and honorary academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, was a brilliant historical novelist. Like Hugo, Dumas, Tolstoy, he was able to describe the great events of bygone eras, paying attention to the personality of the man - the creator of these events. In 1905 Sienkiewicz was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature with the wording "For outstanding services in the field of epic".
The novel "Fire and Sword" tells about the dramatic events of the XVII century, which took place in Ukraine, in the years of popular uprising under Bohdan Khmelnitsky, which led to the reunification of Ukraine and Russia. This is a fascinating story about the harsh times, about brave people, bright characters, exceptional fates.
