Friedrich Kelner, one of Germany's anti-fascist officials, documented the regime's crimes almost daily from 1939 to 1945. His goal was to leave evidence of the senseless obedience of Germans and the deceiving effects of Nazi propaganda. The combination of newspaper clippings and commentary turned Kelner's diary into a crucial historical document, a "depiction of Nazi Germany that has never before existed in such a vivid, concise, and impressive form" (Der Spiegel).
The edition contains the most representative entries.
