In childhood, the future writer Nikolai Vnukov read books by Stevenson and Dumas, Fenimore Cooper and Jack London. From his uncle, who served on the imperial yacht, he contracted a love for the sea and ships. Very young he went to the front, after the war he worked as a cartographer-topographer in search parties in the Far East, a little later - taught at the technical school of marine instrumentation. It would seem that we have figured out the author: an experienced man, a participant of numerous expeditions, could easily write a story about hardships and difficulties on an uninhabited island in the Sea of Okhotsk. But there is something else! It all started with the newspaper "Pacific Komsomolets", which in 1977 published a short note about the adventures of a fourteen-year-old boy living with his father in the village of the oceanological station. Nikolai Vnukov decided to meet him by all means. "And here is Sasha Barash in front of me - thin, short, shy. Tells slowly, thinking over each word. And I look at him and can hardly believe that in front of me - a modern Robinson." So, from personal experience and real history, this book was formed about what a person really needs to survive. The story was translated into many languages, and in Japan it was recognized by young readers as the best work of 1988. For children of middle and high school age.
