New media of information and communication (digital television, the Internet, computers, tablets, smartphones, social networks and messengers) have flooded the life of modern society.
Drawing on the research of contemporary thinkers, sociologists, and scholars specializing in cultural and communication sciences, renowned Orthodox theologian Jean-Claude Larcher makes an in-depth and detailed analysis of the destructive effects that new media generate in various spheres of human life - cultural, social, mental, intellectual, family, and especially spiritual. In the final chapter, the author proposes some preventive and therapeutic measures to get rid of Internet addiction and restore one's psychic and spiritual identity.
The French edition of the book was published in 2016 (Paris: Cerf). For the Russian edition, the text was revised, corrected and updated by the author.
The book is addressed to all those who wish to critically reflect on the use of new media in modern society.
