The novel "Oblomov" is the pinnacle of I.A. Goncharov's work. Published in 1859, this novel caused a mixed reaction of critics. Goncharov not only showed an amazing and paradoxical type of Russian man, but also made his name a nominal, defining such a way of life as "Oblomovshchina". Some saw Oblomov as a symbol of Russia's sluggishness and a sign of the times. According to N.A. Dobrolyubov, "Oblomov's laziness and apathy is the only spring of action in the whole of his story". Other critics justified the protagonist of the novel. Thus, AV Druzhinin wrote: "He is dear to us as an independent and pure nature, quite independent of the scholastic-moral mustiness that stains the vast majority of people ..." Some interpreted the novel as a satirical work, others noted in it and lyrical beginning, and subtle psychology. This original and one-of-a-kind book is still a source of controversy without losing its significance.
