The book contains the first Russian-language translation of the work of Julius Firmicus Maternus "On the Error of Pagan Religions". Firmicus's treatise was created in the middle of the 4th century in the genre of Christian apologetics. Addressing the emperors Constans and Constantius II, the sons of Constantine the Great, he calls for the destruction of pagan cults and the establishment of Christianity. The work contains valuable information about the ideological struggle that was waged during the era of the establishment of Christianity, and about the main pagan cults of that time. The translation of "On Error" is supplemented by a detailed scientific commentary and an introduction characterizing the cultural and historical context of the era in which this work was created. The book is intended both for specialists in the history of late Antiquity, the early Middle Ages and Christianity, and for a wide range of readers interested in ancient and medieval history.
