This publication includes talks and sermons delivered over the years by Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh (Bloom; 1914-2003) on the topic of holiness.
The first part contains talks devoted to the phenomenon of holiness itself, understanding the lessons of holiness in Holy Scripture, the significance of asceticism and eldership in the fullness of Christian life, feasts as an expression of the holiness of the Church, salvation in the world, the characteristics of Russian holiness, and the heroic deeds of individual saints and their lessons. In these talks, Bishop Anthony offers a profound vision of Christian holiness as a response to the holiness of God.
The second part of the volume is Metropolitan Anthony's sermons dedicated to the memory of universal and Russian saints: both the councils of saints, for example, the holy fathers and forefathers, the apostles, the council of British and Irish saints, the holy fathers of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the new martyrs and confessors of Russia, and individual saints of universal and Russian Orthodoxy, from the Old Testament prophets and the first apostles to the saints of the 20th century, almost our contemporaries.
