Arkady Timofeyevich Averchenko was a remarkable Russian writer, playwright, theater critic, and editor of the legendary St. Petersburg magazine Satirikon, which became a major phenomenon in the culture of the Silver Age. As an aspiring writer, Averchenko came to the capital from the south of Russia in the hope of trying his luck - and soon became one of the most famous and successful humor writers. The magazine he created, according to Taffy, "liberated Russian humor ... Russia began to laugh. This edition includes works by Averchenko of different years - humorous stories, feuilletons, plays, the cycle "A dozen knives in the back of the revolution", as well as the novel "The Joke of Maecenas". The plots presented by Averchenko, from domestic scenes to scathing political satire, are often grotesque, but no less true. Gentle humor, cheerful laughing and galling sarcasm - the whole palette of comic under the pen Averchenko. Not without reason contemporaries called him "the knight of the smile", "king of laughter", "Russian Mark Twain.
