Aldous Huxley grew up in a family belonging to the British cultural elite. He had a remarkable erudition, spoke fluent French and German, was acquainted with philosophers and famous writers of the time. His novel is full of hidden quotations, allusions, references, mockery of real people, writers, politicians and businessmen, philosophical trends and dreams of a just society. All these taunts are encrypted in the text, and discovering them without clues is not an easy task. Most will not notice them, and thus lose half the pleasure of reading the novel.
This book gives the reader the key to deciphering "Brave New World". Almost all the names and surnames in the novel - "talking", and their combination - the original satirical technique of the author. It is not by chance that geographical names are chosen, and quotes from Shakespeare in the text - more than forty. And not only quotations - the novel actually encrypts the whole of Shakespeare's play "The Tempest". Shakespeare is not the only one Huxley refers to. Thomas Eliot, Thomas Gray, David Lawrence and Bertrand Russell - this is a partial list of authors whose names are mentioned in the commentary.
And Huxley also uses the discoveries of scientists and their predictions to create a synthetic picture of the future that seems frighteningly convincing. At the beginning of the XX century, when everyone came to marvel at the coming gifts of technological progress, Aldous Huxley saw the girls-assemblers working on the conveyor belt, and was horrified. And suggested his readers to look around and ask themselves: how much they are willing to give for the dubious gifts of technological progress. And also to look more closely and see the walls of the invisible prison, which they had not noticed before.
"Nothing comes for nothing," Aldous Huxley said.
