Medieval bestiaries were not scientific treatises in the usual sense - they were a kind of encyclopedias created in an attempt to collect and systematize information about the surrounding world. In Latin bestia means "beast", but such books could contain descriptions of birds, fish, insects, plants and even minerals. Stories about animals could be accompanied by parables and even religious poems, because in those times people were convinced that the whole living world was just a reflection of the divine Power and Word. The New Medieval Bestiary brings together data from different worlds. It gives a wide range of ideas that have developed about animals from ancient times to the present day. In creating the book were used the works of ancient authors, who with a high degree of reliability described the habits and halo of animals. It also includes myths and legends from the Middle Ages.
