The heroine of Natasha Grin's novel "No Place" travels to Meudon, the Paris suburb where Marina Tsvetaeva spent fourteen years of exile. Climbing to the Observatory Gardens, one of the Efron family's local haunts, listening to fragments of memories from old-timers, peering at century-old photographs, the heroine attempts to connect with her own story through the poet's story—one of separation, rootedness, and the search for one's place in a foreign land. Meanwhile, another story unfolds in Paris in the late 1980s. Two young documentary filmmakers accidentally save from a fire the personal archive of Konstantin Rodzevich—a Soviet spy, a participant in the Spanish Civil War, and the French Resistance—and Marina Tsvetaeva's lover, the subject of her "Poem of the Mountain" and "Poem of the End." Through the discovered photographs and documents, the features of an unknown man gradually emerge, whose fate turns out to be intimately connected with the major historical events of the 20th century. Written at the intersection of autofiction, documentary essay, and poetic prose, the novel includes authentic archival materials from Konstantin Rodzevich's personal archive, discovered by the author in Paris. Natasha Grin is a writer and the author of the novel "Apoptosis" (2022).
