Nikolai Aleksandrovich Leykin was a famous St. Petersburg writer, humorist, journalist, publisher. His popularity was colossal: “the era of Alexander III and the writer Leikin” called the end of the XIX century poet A. Blok. A. P. Chekhov considered Leikin his “godfather”: since the early 1880s, Leikin published his own magazine – the humorous weekly Oskolki, in which he attracted the young Anton Chekhov to cooperate, revealing his talent. The book “Our Abroad” is one of the most famous in the work of Leikin. This is a hilarious story about the trip of merchant Nikolai Ivanovich Ivanov and his wife Glafira Semenovna to France - to the famous World Exhibition in Paris. The book was so liked by readers (only during the life of the author it survived 24 editions!), that Leikin wrote a sequel - "Where oranges ripen", in which the merchant couple decides to visit the French Riviera and Italy. Leiki’s soft humor in relation to compatriots who went to the world to see and show themselves, and today has not lost its relevance.
